Justice, God-style

Introduction

Justice is directly connected to God's holiness. "He is pure and without fault, righteous and demands this of his creation as well. Justice does not make the law, it reveals it." - Systematic Theology Strong P. 293.

Take Note:- In the English language, justice and righteousness are two different words but in both Hebrew and Greek, the word for justice and righteousness is the same. - Systematic Theology Grudem p. 203

Definition of Justice

God's righteousness and justice means that God always acts in accordance with what is right and is himself the final standard of what is right. - Systematic Theology Grudem p. 203

God and Justice

He is the source of what is just and right.

Deut. 32: 3 I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! 4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

Job 37: 23 The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.

He does what is just and right.

Gen 18:25 Far be it from you to do such a thing-to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

He determines what is just and right.

Isaiah 45:19 I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.

What does God love?

Ps 11:7 For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.

God is the final judge

Heb 9:27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment

Rev 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

God's Justice and You

Where can you find what is just?

Psalm 19:7-8 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

God calls upon us to do what is right always.

Lev. 19:15-16 "'Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favouritism to the great, but judge your neighbour fairly. "'Do not go about spreading slander among your people. "'Do not do anything that endangers your neighbour's life. I am the LORD.

Deut 16:18-20 Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the LORD your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly. Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous. Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you.

How do we find justice?

I Kings 3: 11-12 So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.

I Kings 3:28 When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.

Mic 3:8 But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin.

Proverbs 1:1-7 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young- let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance -- for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

What God will do for you?

Psalm 32:3-7 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

You as a Lawyer

Proverbs 29:26 Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the LORD that man gets justice.
